In A Doll’s House, now on stage at Calgary Theatre, Nora isn’t just living in a beautiful home, she’s living like something inside one. Expected to be sweet, decorative, and just a little bit harmless.
She’s not trapped in the obvious way, there’s no lock on the door. But like any well-kept bird, she doesn’t quite belong to herself either.
Amy Herzog’s Tony-nominated adaptation tightens the focus and trims the frills by turning Ibsen’s classic into a mirror for the here and now. The birdhouse isn’t antique anymore. It’s familiar, current, and personal.
